over the red light district

Over the Red Light District proposes urban redevelopment models for the Red Light District Amsterdam. A non conventional architectural vision on vertical mixed models, making use of the up till now vacant upper floors of brothels. This vision aims for conservation and enhancement of the vivacity of the neighborhood. The exhibition focuses on a cut-through model of the Red Light District, Amsterdam, with video projections and sound installations, showing different urban scenarios and architectural proposals of vertical mix. Parts of the exhibition include a world comparison panel of how Amsterdam Red Light District can be an advanced urban planning example for sex in the city. This collective knowledge is built up by comparing Amsterdam with world cities under the theme of “Sex Tourism, Prostitution and Neighbourhood, Transnational Sex Work, and Red Light District Re-construction”. The world cities include: Antwerp, Sidney, Hong Kong, Bangkok. The purpose of the exhibition is to provide a fresh vision to city government and the general public on a more economical and cultural sustainable urban re-generation process for the Red Light District Amsterdam.
